Your mother and I were working on a lot of house projects this weekend. You were so interested in everything we were doing. You watched me so carefully while I was assembling my new drill press and every time your mother brought you out to the garage to say “Hi.” You are still far to young to actually help me on projects but I can see in your eyes that you very much like to help me out.
I don’t know if you will ever really be interested in that kind of stuff but I hope you will, and I hope I will get the opportunity to share with you at least some of the knowledge I received from my father and his father. There is great joy to be had in building something with your own two hands, identifying a problem and creating a solution. I think that is a big part of why I enjoy programming so much. I hope I get to share that with you too.
